President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos congratulated gymnast Carlos Yulo for winning the Philippines' first Olympic gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.Yulo won the gold for floor exercise in Olympic gymnastics, making him the second Olympic gold medalist after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz back in Tokyo three years ago.In a Facebook post, Marcos said the country is proud of Yulo's achievement.
"We’ve witnessed history as Carlos Yulo clinched the Philippines’ first gold medal in artistic gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Olympics," the caption said. "I am confident that it will not be the last."Yulo will have a chance for another medal when he competes in the vault finals on Sunday. Aside from Yulo, boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio are still on the running for a possible medal, while pole vaulter EJ Obiena qualified for the men's pole vault finals.
