The Marawi Compensation Board (MCB) plans to process and distribute 3,000 claims in 2025, doubling its 2024 target, thanks to increased government support and efficiency. While the MCB successfully processed 887 claims in 2023, challenges remain, including resistance from affected communities and a limited personnel capacity. Despite these obstacles, the board is optimistic about meeting its goal and providing compensation to victims of the 2017 Marawi siege.

To address concerns, the board held public consultations in 32 shelters, engaging information officers, lawyers and engineers. Yet, lack of personnel remained a key issue. “By 2028, we should be able to complete all claims. If we are targeting 3,000 per year, we should be able to meet that timeline,” Latiph explained.
