Police are investigating possible gangland links after a man was shot dead outside a martial arts gym in Sydney’s south-west on Thursday morning and a car was later torched in a nearby suburb.
However, a police source not authorised to comment publicly said the investigation was in its infancy and, while possible gang activity was one line of inquiry, detectives are keeping an open mind.A witness, David, toldon 2GB that he was in the back of his workshop, across the road from the gym, when he heard a series of bangs just before 7am.
David estimated he heard between four and six bangs at first, followed by a pause, and the same number of bangs as the car left.Credit:Tensions at the scene escalated shortly after 9am when a large group of people including grieving family members arrived, clashing with media before officers dispersed the crowd.“We are very sorry for any inconvenience. Elite Fight Force will be closed today and all classes will be cancelled for the day,” the statement said.
