A Victorian man accused of threatening to start a bushfire if he wasn’t transferred $5 million has been charged with extortion. 7NEWS

In October last year a Queensland emergency service received a message online demanding the money be transferred by cryptocurrency in three days or a bushfire would be started.Watch the latest news and stream for free onThe incident was reported and handed over to police in Victoria after it was found that was where the message had originated.

Following investigations, a search warrant was executed at a home in Bundoora last week. Police seized a number of items including two computers and a phone.He has been charged with extortion threatening to endanger life, threatening to destroy/damage property and possessing a drug of dependence.
