A 26-year-old man in Cebu City, Francis, attempted suicide by shooting himself and planning to jump from the third floor of a hotel. Police responded to a viral Facebook Live stream where Francis threatened self-harm. He was apprehended and charged with illegal possession of firearms and violation of the Comelec gun ban.

A 26-year-old man from Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City, identified as Francis, who attempted suicide by shooting himself and jumping from the third floor of a hotel on Salinas Drive, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, was rescued by the Mabolo Police Station at 12:15 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Francis's planned suicide stemmed from overwhelming grief after discovering that his girlfriend had been unfaithful.

Despite his rescue, he will face charges of Alarm and Scandal, violation of Republic Act 10591 or Illegal Possession of Firearms, and Comelec gun ban after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was apprehended by the Mabolo Police Station and taken into custody alongside the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Mobile Patrol Unit of the Cebu City Police Office. Authorities recovered a caliber 45 pistol with four bullets and its magazine from him.During his stay at the hotel, Francis went live on Facebook, brandishing his weapon and making threats. After the live stream went viral, the Mabolo Police Station became aware of the situation and immediately responded to the establishment with personnel from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Mobile Patrol Unit of the Cebu City Police Office. They initiated negotiations with Francis. His mother, based in Punta Princesa, was brought to the scene to plead with him to surrender the weapon, but he refused. Police Major Romeo Caacoy Jr., the head of the Mabolo police, stated that they waited for a suitable opportunity for two hours before finally apprehending Francis. When they saw an opening, they swiftly entered the room and disarmed him. During his arrest, Francis revealed the reason for his suicidal attempt, blaming it on the actions of his girlfriend over the past seven years.Francis told investigators that he was deeply hurt after discovering messages on her phone revealing her infidelity and explicit pictures of her with another man.
