NEWLY appointed Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro downplayed on Monday, February 24, 2025, the accusations of former President Rodrigo Duterte that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is “veering towards dictatorship.”In an interview with reporters, Castro tagged Duterte as an expert in creating rumors and planting evidence.
During an indignation rally in Mandaue City, Cebu Saturday, February 22, Duterte said Marcos will not step down after his term and will instead declare martial law to stay in power just like his father.Late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. ruled the country for more than 20 years, half of which was spent under martial law.The patriarch was forced to vacate Malacañang and later leave the country following the Edsa People Power Revolution in 1986.
