Magnitude 6.4 quake rocks Cagayan
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake took place Tuesday night in Cagayan, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.Phivolcs director Teresito 'Toto' Bacolcol said the quake happened around 7:03 p.m. some 26 kilometers north-west of Dalupiri, also in the same province.Tectonic in origin, the earthquake had a depth of focus of 10kms, he said.Phivolcs said Intensity 4 was felt by residents in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded in Aparri and Gonzaga, Cagayan; and Laoag City, Ilocos Sur while Intensity 3 in Penablanca, Cagayan; and Sinait and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.Phivolcs said Intensity 2 was recorded in Ilagan, Isabela andIntensity 1 in Casiguran, Aurora; Candon, Narvacan and Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.While damage to infrastructure is not expected, aftershocks are possible from the latest earthquake, the Phivolcs chief said.
