THE state-run weather agency said on Tuesday that the low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Visayas will likely escalate into a tropical depression in the next 24 or 48 hours but would unlikely affect the country.
Daniel James Villamil of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration said it is the southwest monsoon or 'habagat' that would dump rain in most parts of the country in the coming days.Villamil said the weather disturbance was estimated at 970 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. He said that Pagasa is also monitoring another LPA outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility which was spotted some 910 kms west of Northern Luzon.
'At present, both LPAs will not directly affect the country but the southwest monsoon will bring rain in large parts of the country,' the Pagasa weatherman said. But while the first LPA may develop into a tropical depression, the second LPA won't, the state weather bureau said.Habagat is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan in the next 24 hours.
