A small plane that crashed in Sydney's south-west, killing two people on board, was an "experimental aircraft" built from a kit that was initially registered for the US, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau .
The investigation will include an examination of the wreckage, assessment of aircraft and pilot records, weather information and any available recorded data, ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell said. He said investigators are yet to speak to eyewitnesses but a number of people reportedly saw the plane shortly before the crash, losing sight of it as it disappeared into the trees.Following a search of the area police and ambulance crews found a light plane with two dead aboard.
"Until we have spoken to them and verified those accounts and plus any radar data that might have been covering this area, it is too early for us to speculate."
