Local governments are ready to address the possible effects of the La Niña phenomenon in the country, an official from the Department of the Interior and Local Government said on Wednesday.“Sa aming assessment handa po yung ating mga local na pamahalaan sa darating na La Niña ,” DILG Undersecretaryt Marlo Iringan said in a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview.
Local governments should be in close coordination with state weather bureau PAGASA and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources .Hazards maps should be updated with DENR’s Mines and Geosciences Bureau .On Monday, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. directed the government’s Task Force El Niño to start preparations for the possible onset of the La Niña phenomenon next month.Teodoro is the task force's chairperson.
