She says her First Nations daughter was “ripped” from her life in Australia on Christmas Day and flown to Europe with her father under international law.
The distraught mother of a First Nations girl says the child’s human rights were “hugely violated” after she was forcibly flown out of Australia on Christmas Day under international law to live with her father in Europe.
Some time later, she did return to Australia with the baby, prompting the girl’s father to apply for the child to be returned to him in Europe under The Hague Convention, an international law that gives parents or eligible carers rights over children taken unlawfully across international borders. The woman’s allegations of abuse resulted in an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order being made after the girl’s father arrived in Australia. He has not been charged with any offences.
However, a spokeswoman for Dreyfus said there were “no legal grounds” for his intervention in the case, and that “as a matter of long-standing practice, it is not appropriate to comment on [cases of this kind]”.
