All eyes are now on the ongoing Senate budget hearings after government-owned network, IBC-13 remained unfunded following the identification of P77.5 billion worth of amendments to the House of Representatives’ version of the proposed national budget for 2023.The earliest opportunity for senators to discuss the funding–or lack thereof–of IBC-13 is on Monday, Oct. 10, when the Office of the Press Secretary’s proposed budget for 2023 is scheduled to be taken up.

However, no realignments were made for IBC-13, which as of the House’s third reading passage of the 2023 GAB last Sept. 28 had zero allocation. The executive branch, which prepared the 2023 National Expenditure Program or GAB precursor–intentionally left the state-run network with zero outlay since the long-time plan has been to privatize it. But the route to privatization isn’t so simple.“Ang estimate ay in six months’ time ay kailangan nang magsara ang IBC . But the problem is, pag isara mo by June 2023, hindi naman siya maibebenta .
