MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives approved on second reading the bill that seeks to extend the term of barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK or youth council) officials to six years from three years.
MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives approved on second reading the bill that seeks to extend the term of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials to six years from three years.Under House Bill 11287, village and SK elections shall be held on the second Monday of May 2029 and every six years after that.
'Having served as a barangay captain myself, I understand the challenges of a short term in office. Policies that need to be institutionalized require time,' Cruz Jr. said.He said that limiting village officials to two consecutive terms 'will strike a balance between continuity of leadership and the opportunity for new individuals to bring in fresh ideas and approaches to local governance.
