A survey by Tangere reveals that traditional media outlets, including The Manila Bulletin, enjoy greater public trust compared to social media platforms.

The Manila Bulletin remains the most trusted broadsheet in the Philippines, according to a survey conducted by research firm Tangere. Released on Friday, Jan. 3, the survey results showed that traditional media outlets continue to enjoy greater public trust as news sources compared to social media platforms. Conducted in December 2024, the survey revealed that traditional media outlets maintain higher public confidence as news sources.

It noted that 80 to 90 percent of Filipinos express higher levels of confidence in news obtained from traditional media such as radio, television, and newspapers, compared to a 60 percent trust rating for social media channels. The Manila Bulletin was deemed the most trusted broadsheet by 41.95 percent of respondents, who identified it as their top source for current events and news. This preference is particularly strong among respondents aged 26 to 50. Other broadsheets in the top five for public trust include the Philippine Daily Inquirer (16.55 percent), The Philippine Star (15.20 percent), The Manila Times (4.50 percent), and BusinessWorld (3.75 percent). Tangere conducted the survey from Dec. 28 to 29, 2024, using a mobile-based application with 2,400 participants. The respondents were distributed across the country: 12 percent from the National Capital Region, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from the Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao. The Manila Bulletin, a trusted news source for over a century, will celebrate its 125th anniversary this coming Feb. 2
