A grenade attack on a police camp in Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur, is believed to be motivated by fear, according to PNP-BARMM Regional Director Romeo Macapaz. He attributes the attack to the PNP's success in combating the illegal drug trade in the past year.
COTABATO CITY -- Fear is the motive behind the grenade attack on the 4th Mobile Platoon camp of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company in Pagalungan Maguindanao del Sur on the first day of January 2025. This was confirmed by Philippine National Police -Bangsamoro Region in Muslim Mindanao (PNP-BARMM) Regional Director Romeo Macapaz.
Macapaz personally went to Pagalungan to assess the peace and order situation in the municipality and ordered the police to take precautionary measures to prevent further incidents. Macapaz said that there were significant accomplishments by the PNP in the illegal drug trade in the past year, which could be the reason for the grenade attack on the police as retaliation. Macapaz added that they have been dismantling the said group for some time but some of its members are still involved in the illegal drug trade. Despite this, Macapaz assured that their campaign against illegal drugs, especially in the municipality of Pagalungan, will continue. (Edgar E. Fuerzas
