Aquia also noted that free trade deals will support “legitimate” trade and enhancing trade cooperation. She added that securing preferential tariffs and clear rules would improve the local tobacco industry’s competitiveness. As to the NTMs that need to be addressed, the DTI official said the local tobacco industry should take note of the following measures: stringent packaging and labelling requirements; import restrictions and quotas; excise taxes and price control; customs and administrative barriers; and, technical barriers to trade and environmental regulations.
