Intense rains cause flooding, closing numerous roads in Northern and Eastern Samar. The DPWH reports impassable sections and limited access on key highways.
Flooding caused by heavy rains closed several road sections in Samar provinces on Monday, the Department of Public Works and Highways ( DPWH ) regional office reported. Impassable road sections to all types of vehicles are in Catubig and Las Navas town in Northern Samar . It is within the highway that forms part of the Arteche-Jipapad-Las Navas-Rawis Road linking Eastern Samar and Northern Samar provinces.
The road sections have floodwaters up to 70 centimeters deep as of Monday night, the DPWH said.The road in Simora Kawilan village, Laoang, Northern Samar along Arteche-Jipapad-Las Navas-Rawis Road was closed to light vehicles due to knee-deep floods.Also impassable to all cars are the road sections in Quezon village in Bobon town and Bugko village in Mondragon town both in Northern Samar.In Eastern Samar, totally closed are road sections in the villages of Malinao, San Pablo, and Mabuhay in Taft town.Also closed is the road section in Lokilokon village in Paranas, Samar.The low-lying road in the towns of Paranas and Taft forms part of the highway that links the provinces of Samar and Eastern Samar.Roads with limited access due to floods are Catarman-Calbayog Road linking Samar and Eastern Samar provinces. The same status is reported for Catarman-Laoang Road in Northern Samar.One lane of Cablangan Bridge in Mondragon, Northern Samar was closed due to scouring.
