Inga, Miss Exotic World 2018, headlines the 14th Vancouver International Burlesque Festival
Where: Bill Reid Gallery and Vancouver Playhouse 1. Headliners. Big names at the 14th Vancouver International Burlesque Festival include Inga, Miss Exotic World 2018; Lou Lou la Duchesse de Rière, a Mohawk woman from Montreal and Queen of Burlesque 2018; and Pillow. The Anchorage, Alaska dancer began her career in 1976 and was a pioneering force in the development of women’s bodybuilding in the early 1980s.
2. Nicky Ninedoors. One of many local performers at this year’s VIBF, Nicky Ninedoors is a creative force behind Pandora and the Locksmiths live music burlesque collective. Her titles include Miss Pole Dance Taboo Vancouver 2017 and Miss Erotic Burlesque 2017. 3. Faye Havoc. Another local, this self-described “art deco dreamgirl gone awry” prides herself in creating acts “that comment on the art and structure of the tease, satirizing burlesque itself and challenging the audience’s preconceptions of what it is — or isn’t,” according to her website. Her act features “obsessively detailed stagewear and clever, funny, emotional, and innovative numbers.”
4. Diversity policy. This year’s VIBF is emphasizing “the fact that every body is a burlesque body” and ensuring that audience members “can see themselves represented on our stages so that they can believe that sexiness is not confined to size, gender, race, sexual identity, or age.” According to the media release, “81 per cent of this years’ performers fall within our diversity policy including our award-winning headliners.
5. TIT Talks . The VIBF’s take on TED Talks offers unique perspectives on life, love, and burlesque courtesy festival guests. Cocktails will be served.
