Giants and T-birds face off at the LEC in a pivotal Game 5

The Vancouver Giants are going to Kent, Wash., Saturday, looking for their first playoff series win since 2009-10.

“It was a grinder. It was a playoff game. I thought both teams played well and we ended up finding an opportunity to score in the third period,” said Giants coach Michael Dyck. “I knew were going to respond . We’ve done it all year long. I think we handle adversity well.” With a penalty against Seattle about to be called, Byram went from the left point across the blue line, and then drove forward, cutting sharply to get a shot on net. Hines, also a defenceman, swatted in the rebound.

Dylan Plouffe and Jadon Joseph put Vancouver out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Seattle came back with power play markers from Matthew Wedman in the first and Noah Philp in the second to knot things at 2-2. The Thunderbirds were without forward Sean Richards, who was suspended indefinitely for his checking from behind major for his hit on Vancouver forward Aidan Barfoot in Game 4 in Kent, and defenceman Cade McNelly, who received a two-game suspension after making a threatening gesture from the penalty box at Giants Byram in Game 3 in Kent.
