A missing diver has been found after spending the night on a rock ledge on the New South Wales far south coast.
A multi-agency search was launched at 3:15pm on Saturday afternoon following reports a man hadn’t returned to shore after being seen leaving Lennards Island for a spear fishing expedition. The 64-year-old spear fisherman went missing at Lennards Island. Picture: Supplied
Volunteers for Marine Rescue NSW found the 64-year-old man about 9am this morning, just an hour after the search resumed this morning.The area around Lennards Island and water surrounding the Beowa National Park were all searched thoroughly for any sign of the missing diver. Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Glenn Sullivan sang the praises of the hard-working volunteers who found the spear fisherman.
"It was an amazing effort from all rescuers involved in this search which began yesterday afternoon," he said.The Marine Rescue NSW vessels XRAY 30 and Merimbula 31 were utilised for the mission and have since been returned to their respective bases.The remote Lennards Island is only accessible by 4WD and is a popular choice for adventure-seekers thanks to its well-known fishing and diving spots.
