LONGTIME Paynesville resident Wilhelmina 'Mina' Armstrong has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to the community of East Gippsland.The Order of Australia is the preeminent way of Australia ns to recognize the achievements and service of fellow citizens. Since emigrating to Paynesville from the Philippines in 1978, Armstrong has been a passionate advocate for local causes across a wide range of endeavors.
Her involvement includes significant contributions to the establishment of a new oncology and dialysis unit in Bairnsdale, the establishment of the Bairnsdale International Women's Group, fundraising for the Noweyung Disability Centre, Tafe scholarships, fundraising for St Mary's Church Bairnsdale, support for the CFA and youth programs via Rotary Toorak.
