NEW: Environment Canada forecaster bets a 'Loonie or two' the Rideau Canal Skateway will open this winter ottnews
The Rideau Canal Skateway is seen in Ottawa as it remains closed to the public, on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023.
The National Capital Commission says it has not been able to open the world's largest skating rink this winter due to the "persistent above-normal seasonal temperatures". "You mentioned about throwing in the towel, I hope the people looking after the Rideau Canal don't because I think something is coming," Phillips said Friday morning.
The Rideau Canal Skateway is a popular tourist attraction in Ottawa during the winter, and one of the main attractions during Winterlude. This is the first time the skateway has not been open during the winter festival.
