MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Olympian pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena vowed to return to form after the Paris Olympics.In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Obiena described his fourth place finish at the recently-concluded pole vault finals as the harshest place, as he fell short of making the podium.'Fourth place is painful to say the least; and in sports with three podium places, perhaps 4th is the harshest place to be,' he wrote.
'On a positive note I am proud of what I was actually able to stitch together for this Olympics, with all the struggles that came with this year; but still it hurts to be this close to an Olympic Medal.'The world number 2 pole vaulter said reality is still sinking in for him and is still processing the outcome.He even saluted double gold medalist Carlos Yulo and apologized for not being on the podium with him.
