MANILA, Philippines — Filipino pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena finished joint fourth at the Wanda Diamond League - Meeting De Paris at the Stade Charlety Paris in France late Sunday night .The Paris Olympics-bound Obiena posted his best clearance of 5.75 meters before failing to clear 5.85 in two attempts. Obiena , who owns the Asian record of 6.0m, used his final try and skipped to 5.95m but could still not surpass the said height.

Like Obiena, he aced 5.50m in one try, skipped 5.65, and cleared 5.75 in just one attempt before striking out at 5.85m. As expected, reigning world and Olympic champion Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis topped the competition and seized the gold medal with a 6.0m clearance. He tried to break his own world record of 6.24m but could not clear 6.25 in three attempts.Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sam Kendricks of the United States finished second by surpassing 5.
