Electric bike (e-bike) drivers in Mandaue City have strongly opposed the proposed citywide ban on e-bikes used for passenger transport, fearing the loss of their livelihood once the ban implementation begins. In Cebu City, a local legislator argues that outright prohibition of e-bikes is not a solution, and suggests integrating them into the local public transport system.
Mandaue resident John Lawrence Tayo, an e-bike driver and owner, fears that the ban would severely affect his ability to support his family. Tayo and other drivers plan to appeal to the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) to reconsider the ban, emphasizing the importance of e-bikes to their daily lives. Another driver, Junior Etgano, highlights the financial challenges the ban would create for them, as e-bikes are their sole source of income. In Barangays Paknaan and Opao, 40 and 20 e-bikes, respectively, operate as a key mode of transportation for commuters, who find e-bikes affordable and convenient.
