The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) is actively preparing for the potential impact of Tropical Depression Querubin, prepositioning relief resources and coordinating with local government units (LGUs) for a swift response.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) prepositioned relief resources in strategic warehouses beginning Tuesday afternoon, as Tropical Depression Querubin continues to threaten the region. 'The team is now on alert, closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local government units (LGUs) as needed,' DSWD-13 said in a statement on Wednesday.
The DSWD-13 readied 125,063 family food packs and 29,562 nonfood items (NFIs) for immediate distribution if needed. The agency also reported having P180 million in relief resources, P1.8 million in standby funds and P178 million allocated for NFIs. Through its Disaster Response Management Division, the agency activated its Quick Response Team on Tuesday to monitor the situation and coordinate with LGUs. LGUs in the region have also taken proactive measures through their respective Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils. In Surigao del Sur, the town of San Miguel suspended classes from kindergarten to high school on Wednesday due to heavy rains. The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council-13, led by the Office of Civil Defense, said concerned agencies and LGUs have initiated emergency preparedness and response measures. The Department of Health-13 is on standby for possible resource augmentation, with prepositioned medicines across the region's five provinces. The Coast Guard District Northeastern Mindanao has also activated its deployable response groups for emergency operations
