DOLE planning to scale down deployment of OFWs to Saudi Arabia next year

The labor department is planning to scale down the deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Saudi Arabia starting next year.

In a press briefing, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said this was due to the “slow action” of the Saudi government on the plight of workers there.

“Over 200 of them were employed by one of the main contractors Saudi Aramco…most of the workers have not received their salary since April 2019 and whose monetary claims have yet to be settled,” he said. “I brought the matter to the attention of the Saudi Arabia ambassador to request the Saudi government’s intervention for our workers. We have yet to see the result of the intervention,” he said.
