New COVID-19 infections surpassed the 12,000 mark from May 8 to May 14, 2023, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.
Based on the latest DOH bulletin, the country logged a total of 12,414 new coronavirus cases in the past week, 31% higher than the 9,465 cases monitored from May 1 to May 7.
It likewise marked the 11th straight week of increasing cases and the second straight week of more than 1,000 average daily new cases. Meanwhile, the Health Department said there were no verified COVID-19-related deaths in the country in the past week. This is 100% lower than the number of fatalities reported in the last nine weeks.
According to the DOH bulletin, 437 severe and critical cases, or 8.8% of the total COVID-19 admissions were admitted to hospitals due to COVID-19 as of May 14. It is the highest number of severe and critical cases in 15 weeks and the second straight week of more than 400 admissions for such cases.
