The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is expanding free WiFi access in the Davao Region by acquiring 243 new sites. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and provide connectivity to underserved communities.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology ( DICT ) plans to acquire 243 more sites to install free WiFi facilities in the Davao Region . This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by expanding access to underserved and remote communities. Jose Benjamin Valencia II, DICT -XI Free WiFi and National Broadband Project focal person, stated that 235 free WiFi sites are currently operational across the region.

These include sites in public spaces like schools, hospitals, libraries, and government offices, as well as in geographically isolated areas. Valencia explained that the procurement process for 243 new sites is underway, with 196 planned for municipalities, 20 for state universities and colleges, and 27 for municipalities in Davao Oriental. Engr. Eduardo Tuquib, DICT-XI technical operations division chief, also mentioned that 93 Tech4Ed sites are operational in the region, providing training opportunities through 56 sessions
