THE Malabon City government announced on Friday that the 'Devil and St. Michael the Archangel statue' has been returned to Tugatog Public Cemetery in time for Undas 2024.Mayor Jeannie Sandoval told The Manila Times that she made sure that the renowned statue should be returned to the public cemetery to conserve and protect artworks and properties of significant historical and cultural value.
Martin Pison, Don Simeon's great-grandson, said that the statue was created as a symbol of the harsh reality that evil often prevails over good.Don Simeon, a freemason, was accused of revolutionary activities in 1892 during Spanish colonial period, and was captured, tortured, and later exiled to Yap Island in the Carolines.'He had it built as a symbol and reminder to the people that evil must not reign over goodness,' Pison said.
