DESTINATIONS in the Visayas region are among the most popular and frequently visited by both international travelers and domestic tourists.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco underscores the vital role of local government units in advancing sustainable tourism and community development during her address at the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Visayas Island Cluster Conference on Tuesday at the Edsa Shangri-La.
“This underscores the critical role the Visayas region plays in our national tourism development,” she added, as she likewise highlighted the awards recently accorded to several of its destinations. Recognized among the winners were Tubigon, Bohol for its volcanic plug; Badian, Cebu for its community tourism facility; Silago, Southern Leyte for its eco-heritage museum; Victorias City, Negros Occidental for its birdwatching site at Gawahon Ecopark; and Panay, Capiz for its coastal infrastructure project.
The DOT chief enjoined the local executives to help in addressing the “urgent need to build infrastructure to encourage more tourists to visit your destinations.”
