Bacolod City is experiencing a concerning rise in dengue cases. The number of reported cases has increased by 29% compared to the same period last year. Dr. Grace Tan, head of the City Health Office's Environment Sanitation Division, urges the public to take preventive measures to combat the spread of the disease.

Dengue cases in Bacolod City have surged by 29% from January 12 to 18, 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Data from the City Health Office (CHO) reveals a total of 40 reported dengue cases this year, with no recorded fatalities. In contrast, during the corresponding period last year, the city reported 31 cases, also without any deaths. Dr.

Grace Tan, head of the CHO's Environment Sanitation Division, highlighted that Barangay Villamonte reported the highest number of cases with six, followed by Barangay Mandalagan with five. Barangay Tangub recorded four cases, while Barangays Singcang-Airport and Estefania each had three cases. Dr. Tan explained that dengue continues to affect individuals of all ages and genders, with transmission occurring through bites from female mosquitoes infected with the virus. These mosquitoes breed in stagnant, clear water found in both large and small containers. Patients with dengue are at risk of dehydration, which can progress to low blood pressure and shock. Dr. Tan further emphasized the significance of adhering to the Department of Health's 4S program. She urged the public to actively search for and destroy mosquito breeding sites, practice self-protection measures such as wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and using mosquito repellent, seek immediate medical consultation if symptoms arise, and support fogging or spraying efforts to mitigate mosquito populations
