Bacolod City experiences a 46.7% increase in dengue cases from January 5 to 11, 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Authorities emphasize the need for public awareness and participation in mosquito control measures.
Dengue cases in Bacolod City have surged by 46.7% from January 5 to 11, 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Data from the City Health Office (CHO) revealed a concerning increase, with 22 dengue cases reported this year, as opposed to 15 cases last year. While thankfully, there have been no fatalities reported in either period, the rise in infections necessitates immediate attention.
Barangays Singcang-Airport and Villamonte topped the list with three cases each, followed by Barangays Banago, Mandalagan, Tangub, and Mansilingan, which reported two cases each. Dr. Grace Tan, head of the City Health Office’s Environment Sanitation Division, underscored the persistent threat of dengue, which affects individuals of all ages and genders through bites from infected female mosquitoes. She explained that these mosquitoes primarily breed in stagnant, clear water found in various containers, both large and small. Dengue infection can cause severe dehydration, potentially leading to low blood pressure and shock. Dr. Tan emphasized the importance of proactive measures to curb the outbreak. The CHO is actively conducting indoor and outdoor residual spraying and fogging operations in areas with concentrated cases and public spaces. Furthermore, Dr. Tan appealed to residents to diligently inspect their homes for potential mosquito breeding sites and eliminate them promptly. She stressed the need for early intervention and advised individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever or flu-like manifestations to seek medical attention or consultation without delay.Dr. Tan also reiterated the vital role of adhering to the Department of Health’s 4S program, which encompasses four essential strategies: Searching for and destroying mosquito breeding sites, implementing self-protection measures like wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and applying mosquito repellent daily, seeking early consultation with healthcare professionals, and actively supporting fogging and spraying initiatives. By collectively implementing these measures, Bacolod City residents can contribute to mitigating the spread of dengue and safeguarding their well-being
