THE panel of prosecutors of the Department of Justice has junked the motion of suspended Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” A. Teves Jr. seeking to inhibit its members from further conducting proceedings on the murder charges filed against him in connection with the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and nine others last March 4.
Manuel told reporters the panel insisted that its proceedings are independent from the actions of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla. The panel of prosecutors handling the case, according to Teves’s lawyers, can no longer claim impartiality in resolving the case considering the pronouncements of Remulla.
Manuel said filing a motion for reconsideration or elevating the issue before a higher court are among the options they are considering. Following the denial of the motion for inhibition, the panel gave Teves’ lawyers until July 17 to file his counteraffidavit on the criminal charges against their client.
