Key local officials of Negros Oriental on Monday declared their opposition to the proposed postponement of the October 30, 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in the province.
In a public hearing at Dumaguete City Convention Center led by Commission on Elections chairman George Garcia, provincial administrator Arthur Fran Tolcidas, who represented Negros Oriental Governor Manuel Sagarbarria, said the governor’s position is to push through with the barangay elections.
“It is unfair if iba-base natin ang ating pagtingin sa kalagayan ng ating probinsya sa mga haka-haka lamang dapat we need to have an empirical data like this no other than our police force gives us full data of what happening In the peace and order situation of our province,” he added. “The vice governor expresses that if the peace and order situation in the province of Negros Oriental is generally peaceful, we need to push through,” Angcon said.
Renz Mancion, president of SK Federation of Dumaguete City, said postponing the BSKE would deprive new young leaders the opportunity to serve.
