A serious motorcycle collision in Davao City resulted in a fatality and the closure of a major highway.

On the second day of 2025 in Davao City , Carlo P. Garcia Highway was closed for a day after a collision between two motorcycles. Due to severe injuries, wounds and broken bones on different parts of the body, a 64-year-old motorcyclist was declared dead at 5:58 AM on January 2, 2025.

According to the police report, the colliding motorcycles were driven by a man named Joni, 38 years old, from Digos City, and the other motorcycle, driven by a man named Ed, 64 years old, from Cabantian, Davao City.According to the initial investigation, Joni's motorcycle was traveling on the highway from Panacan and Ed's motorcycle was traveling from Mamay Road towards Cabantian direction. Upon reaching the intersection, the two motorcycles collided, resulting in the riders falling. Both riders were assisted by the responding Central 911 Paramedics team and taken to the hospital. However, at 7 AM on January 2, Thursday, Ed was declared dead. The Traffic Enforcement Unit of Davao City continues to conduct an investigation into the accident. (Jeepy P. Compio
