The initial amount of damages and losses to the agriculture sector, particularly rice, corn, high-value crops, and livestock, due to tropical storm
“Ambo” has reached ₱185.83 million in Region 4-A, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas, the Department of Agriculture reported on Saturday evening .
Despite the millions of losses in agricultural products, the DA said Secretary William Dar’s advisory to harvest mature crops prior to the arrival of Ambo has helped save 416,732 metric tons of rice amounting to P7.01 billion, and 208,890 metric tons of corn amounting to P2.17 billion. The rains also proved beneficial for the water reservoirs in Central Luzon, particularly Angat Dam in Bulacan and Pantabangan in Nueva Ecija, the agency pointed out.
