MANILA - Typhoon Ambo slammed into Burias island 3 a.m. Friday, bringing strong winds and heavy rains as it made its 5th landfall so far over the eastern Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
The typhoon, which was packing maximum sustained winds of 125 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 165kph, earlier made past landfalls over San Policarpo, Eastern Samar; Dalupiri Island, Northern Samar; Capul Island, Northern Samar; and Ticao Island, in Masbate.
Metro Manila, the nation's capital which remains under lockdown because of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, is under TCWS No. 2. "Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur in highly to very highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall," PAGASA warned in its 5 a.m. advisory.
