MANILA, Philippines: The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the ruling of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) dismissing the disqualification case against Senator Raffy Tulfo.
MANILA, Philippines: The Supreme Court has upheld the ruling of the Commission on Elections dismissing the disqualification case against Senator Raffy Tulfo .The disqualification case against Tulfo was filed by his alleged wife, Julie Licup Pearson, a month before the 2022 general elections.Pearson said that Tulfo should be disqualified from running for public office because he had been convicted of libel, a crime involving moral turpitude.
The Comelec First Division dismissed the petition for failure to attach the required proof of service.Pearson moved for reconsideration, but the Comelec denied it for lack of jurisdiction. She then sought to reverse the poll body's decision before the High Court through a petition for certiorari.
