Court frees Pemberton
A court in Olongapo City has ordered the release of US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, who was convicted in the killing of Filipino transgender woman Jennifer Laude in 2014.Pemberton was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but he will be freed after only serving six years because his application for a Good Conduct Time Allowance was approved by the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 last September 1.
Pemberton was among the hundreds of soldiers who took part in joint training maneuvers with Filipino counterparts.According to court records, the two wound up in a motel room in Olongapo.
