THE Senate finance subcommittee on Thursday approved the proposed P35.4 billion budget of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for next year. With this approval, Sen. Imee Marcos, who chaired the subcommittee hearing, announced that the poll body’s budget would now be endorsed to the Senate plenary.

The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in December next year will receive the biggest blow, as they have been reduced by more than P8 billion. As expected, the national and local elections would get the lion’s share in the Comelec’s budget pie, amounting to P14.9 billion.
