The Commission on Elections extended the deadline for the filing of petitions against nuisance candidates.

In a notice posted on social media Friday evening, the Comelec said the deadline was moved from Monday, Oct. 14 to Wednesday, Oct. 16.“Please take notice that the Commission approved the extension of the deadline for the filing of Petitions Against Nuisance Candidates from Monday, 14 Oct. 2024 to Wednesday, 16 Oct. 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

In its memo dated Oct. 11, the poll body noted the extension is pursuant to the order of Malacanang suspending government work on Oct. 14 to 15 for the holding of an international event in Pasay City. Earlier, Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said at least 66 senatorial aspirants out of the 183 hopefuls are assured of being in the official ballot for the May 2025 midterm elections.

The poll body said its Law Department is expected to submit its recommendations in November on who will be retained, removed, and declared nuisance candidates for next year’s polls.Other senatorial aspirants are facing various issues, including those whose parties issued two certificates of nomination and acceptance .
