A coconut vendor in Naga City, Cebu, has been arrested after allegedly murdering his live-in partner and their two young children. Police are investigating the motive behind the gruesome crime, which allegedly occurred due to domestic issues.

On Monday morning, a horrific tragedy unfolded in Barangay Lutac, Naga City, southern Cebu , when Carlo Camporedondo, a coconut vendor, brutally murdered his live-in partner, Junelyn Jimenez, and their two young children, John Carlo (11 years old) and LJ (2 years old).

Police Lieutenant Colonel Verniño Noserale, chief of the Naga City Police Station, stated that Camporedondo will face charges of murder and two counts of parricide, despite claims that he was mentally unstable at the time of the crime. Noserale emphasized that the presumption of sanity applies to all individuals, and it would be Camporedondo's responsibility to prove his insanity in court. The gruesome discovery was made by neighbors who found the victims inside their house, sustaining severe hack wounds. The victims' necks were almost severed, indicating the brutality of the attack. Camporedondo, known as a drug addict in the barangay and previously under medication for mental health issues, was apprehended shortly after the incident. He was taken to a Cebu City hospital for treatment of a bullet wound in his knee sustained during an attempt to attack pursuing police officers with a bolo. Noserale revealed that Camporedondo was subsequently transferred to the psychiatric ward of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center due to a nervous breakdown.Investigators are exploring several possible motives for the crime, including jealousy, financial problems, illegal drug use, and gambling addiction. Police reported that the couple had been experiencing marital discord due to Camporedondo's laziness and preoccupation with online games instead of selling coconuts. Their eldest child, a seven-year-old, was away at school during the attack and is now in the custody of social workers for stress debriefing.
