Blue skies over Sydney set to give way to heavy rainfall, dangerous winds | sallyrawsthorne
You wouldn’t know it if you looked out your window right now, but parts of Sydney could cop up to 70 millimetres of rain in just six hours on Saturday as the Bureau of Meteorology warns the blue skies over the city on Saturday morning will give way to heavy rainfall and dangerous winds.
“Six-hourly rainfall totals between 30 to 50mm are likely, with isolated falls above 70mm possible,” the bureau said in a warning issued in the early hours of Saturday. There are currently 20 severe weather warnings current across the state, with flood warnings in the Hawkesbury and Nepean rivers in Sydney and several rivers across the state’s Central West and Riverina regions.Ahead of the forecast heavy rains, NSW Police have activated the State Emergency Operations Centre at Homebush.
