A 19-year-old Sydney man has been arrested by the Australian Federal Police over an SMS scam which targeted customers whose personal information was compromised in the Optus data breach.
The Australian Federal Police will allege the teenager accessed the 10,200 Optus stolen records posted online last month and used the data to target 93 customers with a texting scam.

Picture: AFP The teenager has been charged with using a telecommunications network with the intent to commit a serious offence, the offence being blackmail which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
The AFP is continuing its work with Operation Hurricane which is “aggressively” investigating the alleged offenders behind the Optus breach. "Be really mindful if customers get telephone calls from banks, police and other organisations with offers to help with the data breach consider hanging up immediately.
