BACOLOD CITY – Classes in all levels in the province of Negros Occidental – except for two towns – were suspended on Tuesday, August 29, due to heavy rains from typhoon “Goring.”
Acting Mayor El Cid Familiaran here issued an executive order on Monday, August 28, cancelling classes in all levels and suspending work in all government offices in this city on August 29 due to the inclement weather.
Familiaran said that employers of private businesses and establishments here are highly encouraged to suspend work in order for their employees to attend to the needs of their families affected by the inclement weather. He also said that the Commission on Elections may be allowed to continue accepting Certificates of Candidacy filed with their office on August 29 for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections .
Familiaran reminded barangay officials and residents of flood-prone and low-lying barangays here to actively monitor the situation in their areas during the typhoon. Other LGUs in the province that also suspended classes in all levels on August 29 were the towns of E.B. Magalona, Isabela, La Castellena, Moises Padilla, Pulupandan, Pontevedra, Don Salvador Benedicto, Hinoba-an, Cauayan, Hinigaran, Manapla, Binalbagan, Calatrava, Ilog, Valladolid, Candoni, San Enrique, and Murcia, and the cities of La Carlota, Bago, Talisay, Kabankalan, Silay, Escalante, Sagay, Victorias, Cadiz, and Himamaylan.
