BACOLOD CITY — The city treasurer of Sagay City in Negros Occidental is facing investigation after her failure to release P7.3 million in health emergency allowance for the 93 frontline care workers of the city.Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. said on Monday that on August 27, nurses, doctors and other health workers went to his office to complain that despite the arrival of their P7.3 million HEA, they still had not received what was due them.
The mayor said he does not know if there is any money left in the vault and is waiting for his lawyer's advice on how to have it opened.Javelosa said he did not believe Pinongan's claims, given that the treasurer reportedly opens the vault daily for city transactions.Following the incident, Javelosa sealed and signed the larger vault.Pinongan returned to the CTO on September 5 after taking her leave of absence.She should repay the money used to cover to pay the employees, Javelosa said.
