SAMAHANG Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio said San Miguel Corp. (SMC) sports director Alfrancis Chua is joining Gilas Pilipinas in an official capacity as project director and team manager.
SAMAHANG Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio said San Miguel Corp. sports director Alfrancis Chua is joining Gilas Pilipinas in an official capacity as project director and team manager.'I am very happy that Alfrancis is back with Gilas . I work well with him and our only objective is to elevate Philippine Basketball,' Panlilio told The Manila Times.The SBP head also thanked SMC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ramon S. Ang for allowing Chua to help the national team anew.
Chua, who also served as Barangay Ginebra team governor in the PBA, was co-team manager of Gilas Pilipinas when the Philippine team bagged the Asian Games gold medal in last year's edition in Hangzhou, China.That marked the end of a 61-year title drought in the Asian Games for the Philippines.Philippine team coach Tim Cone, who has worked with Chua at Ginebra since 2016, described the latter as a 'great motivator' during last week's press conference.
