The ACT government will set up a board of inquiry to investigate the rape trial of Bruce Lehrmann, including the conduct of and relationship between the Director of Public Prosecutions and police.

Lehrmann vehemently denies the rape allegation and is not subject to any charge since his retrial was scrapped.The ACT government inquiry will look at “whether the functions of the various criminal justice entities involved in the matter were discharged with appropriate rigour, impartiality, and independence”.

The inquiry will probe the engagement between ACT DPP Shane Drumgold and ACT Policing regarding the prospect of charges being laid, decision to proceed to trial and subsequent decision to scrap a retrial.
