An eight-year-old girl from the same remote mountain town was in critical condition, sedated and on a ventilator. Dr Concepción Rocío Arias Cruz, the director of a hospital in the state capital, told the Milenio television station that there was little chance she would survive. “They were bitten on December 1, they delayed going to a clinic for treatment for 20 days,” Arias Cruz said. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , “Once clinical signs of rabies appear, the disease is nearly always fatal, and treatment is typically supportive.
